Green Cleaning is Safer for the Planet
Cleaning up the Planet
After we clean our homes, what happens to the glass cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, and other conventional chemicals used to rid our homes of dirt and grime? The quick answer is our water, the air we breathe, soil, and ultimately our eco-systems. How can substances that are made to “clean,” end up polluting the planet? Chemicals. Toxic Chemicals, that is.
Let’s start with water. When conventional cleaners are washed down the drain or flushed down the toilet, they end up in the soil, lakes, rivers, oceans and water treatment plants. When toxic chemicals are present in natural water eco systems, they can cause a host of environmental problems; one of them is increased growth of algae on plants, which can cause naturally occurring plants to die, therefore impacting much of the surrounding water wildlife.
When toxic chemicals end up in water treatment plants, they are then treated with more chemicals to make the water “safe” to drink. Who wants to drink water polluted with chemicals, then treated with chemicals?
In addition to our water systems, chemical cleaning agents also end up in the air. Not only do aerosols and cleaners used in homes stay within the home, causing you to inhale the fumes into your lungs, the toxins are then released into the environment, contributing to the air pollution problems we face today. Air pollution has been shown to contain cancer causing agents that contribute to human and animal illness, in addition to global warming and many other environmental pollution issues.
The earth’s ecosystems are another area negatively impacted by dangerous household chemicals. By definition, an “ecosystem,” is an interactive environment including plants, water and animals. When toxins are present in the air, water and soil of ecosystems, plants and animals are poisoned and even killed by the resources they need to survive. We have already witnessed the many affects household chemicals have on our environment, and the only way to battle the problem is to seek safer alternatives for cleaning our homes, preventing further environmental damage in the future.
We have one planet on which we all live, and the pollution caused today will impact generations to come. At Clean Conscience, we believe in environmental preservation and integrity, and we only offer cleaning products that do not contain toxic chemicals.
